'''<big>1. <u>Consent</u>:</big>''' Respect and accommodate other people's consent, comfort, and agency in all things. Consent may be withdrawn at any point, and its withdrawal must be immediately respected. Be clear in your consent preferences sheet.

'''<big>4. High Expectation Roles:</big>''' Command, Security, and Dignitaries <u>must</u> follow their SOP and Space Law. Their roleplay and gameplay are held to a higher standard. They must be reachable and responsive via radio.

'''<big>5. Antagonists:</big>''' Follow your SOP. Try to use antagonism to roleplay more than to "play to win". You do not have to do your objectives, but harmful antagonist activity must contribute to your objectives in a meaningful way. Do not cause random chaos and harm. Avoid unnecessary collateral. Do not call or recall the shuttle. Don't ram the station.

Foreword

The guiding principle behind our rules is respecting the consent, comfort, and agency of others.

All players and characters on the Den must be 18+ years old.

This page is intended to concisely cover our most important rules. Additional rules regarding specific detailed topics can be found on our subrules page.

All rule enforcement is ultimately at the discretion of admin interpretation, but we are always looking to set clear expectations. If there is any room for misunderstanding, it will be taken into account and corrected when possible. Please ask if there is any confusion, and make a staff ticket if you would like any previous decision or admin action reviewed.

Rule 0

The Den aims to encourage roleplay and allow players to write their own story for their character, while discouraging random anarchy, unwanted disruptions, and OOC discomfort. We frequently grant exceptions to rules to allow pursuit of personal goals. This is often referred to as a "Rule 0 request".

Please ask us via ahelp for practically any assistance or rule exception that would enhance or enable roleplay. This can include permission to commit major crimes as a crew-aligned character, items, special character modifications, custom antagonist objectives, personal events, and almost anything else you can think of. As long as the station has sufficient staffing, admins aim to accommodate most requests.

Primary Rules

1. Consent: Respect and accommodate other people's consent, comfort, and agency in all things. Consent must be clear and obtained OOC before actions that would require it. Prior consent for one interaction does not constitute blanket consent for future interactions. Consent may be withdrawn at any point, and its withdrawal must be immediately respected. Be clear in your consent preferences sheet.

If someone does anything that you are uncomfortable with, tell them immediately in LOOC, request help from an admin, and/or press the X card button in the consent menu. If someone raises an X card, immediately pause or disengage completely. - Related: Consent Primer, Privacy Holobarriers

2. General Behavior: Be civil, polite, and respectful. Don't make the round worse for others for your own amusement. Don't harass people or make others uncomfortable. Don't be abrasive to others without prior consent. Don't be an asshole. - Related: Chat Rules, Social Conflict

3. Self Antagonism: Don't be a nuisance, threat, or problem for the station unless you are an antagonist and your objectives direct you to do so. - Related: Social fights, Harmless Crime, Prisoners

4. Roleplay: Enable collaborative storytelling whenever possible, especially during conflict. Don't "play to win" at the cost of others. Don't be an unwanted disruption. Play a character that acts in a believable way for someone employed on or visiting a station, who wants to continue living, avoid injury, and (usually) remain employed. - Related: Continuity, Adversarial Roleplay, Social Conflict, Naming Policy, Ghost Roles, Silicons

5. Erotic Roleplay: NSFW interactions and ERP are allowed between mutually consenting individuals, but everyone's boundaries must be respected. Don't expose anyone to NSFW dialogue, emotes, content, or scenes without informed prior consent.

Don't discuss previous ERP interactions with others, without consent from everyone who was involved. Use privacy holobarriers with clear descriptions to mark areas containing scenes or content that requires consent to view. Never open bolted doors with privacy holobarriers on them. - Related: Privacy Holobarriers, Prisoners, Chemicals/Drinks/Food

6. Sensitive Topics: Any depiction of self harm, any graphic descriptions of violent or body horror content, all explicit erotic content, and any mention of non-consensual content of any kind, mental or physical, must have the prior informed OOC consent of everyone who is exposed to it, before being roleplayed out or spoken about. Do not discuss these topics in any channels other than whisper, subtle or subtle OOC. This rule includes discussing your character's history. - Related: Privacy Holobarriers, Chat Rules

7. Gameplay: Do the job you signed up for, and be available to handle problems relevant to your role. Don't do other people's jobs, whenever possible. Don't chase threats unless it's your job to do so. Cooperate with your department members. If you're going to be unavailable, let your department know. - Related: Powergaming, Validhunting, Metagaming, Respawning

8. High Expectation Roles: Gameplay and roleplay standards are more strictly enforced for Command, Dignitary, Justice, and Security. Adhere to your SOP and Space Law. Your role's responsibilities take priority over private roleplay.

Be knowledgeable about your role/department. Enable others to be involved in available gameplay and roleplay. Do not enact arbitrary decisions or otherwise abuse your authority to the detriment of the crew. - Related: Cryosleep & Respawning, Adversarial Roleplay

9. Antagonists: Gameplay and roleplay standards are more strictly enforced for antagonists. Adhere to your SOP. Objectives can be ignored, but harmful antagonist activity must significantly contribute towards your objectives, while avoiding collateral or widespread damage.

Don't kill uninvolved crew for their equipment or access. Don't pursue objectives inside privacy holobarrier areas. Don't damage dorms, arrivals, or evac. Don't call or recall the evac shuttle. Don't ram the station. - Related: Ghost Roles, Silicons, Adversarial Roleplay
