On Space Station 14, stations operate under abbreviated space law. All crew, passengers, and visitors aboard the station are expected to follow these laws.
TODO: <s>Robots, Mantis stuff, Artifact stuff</s>, equipment expectations section, anomaly handling/safety.

Foreign invaders, such as nuclear operatives, ninjas, and pirates, are not protected under space law. Traitors are not foreign invaders so they are usually protected by space law.

Designation of 'sentient being' does not automatically grant protections under Space Law. See the [[Security Standard Operating Procedures|Rules of Engagement]] for what constitutes proper reasoning to instantly terminate a sentient being.

== Modifiers by Definition ==
The Mantis is intended to assist security with psionic-related issues and threats, '''when requested'''. They are not a vigilante or private investigator, and '''shall not''' harass, stalk, or threaten law-abiding psionic crew. When requested by security, the Mantis may apply psionic suppression to criminals, however mindbreaker toxin shall never be used without a direct order from the Captain or Head of Security, and only as punishment for '''extreme''' capital crimes that involve the use of dangerous psionics.
Sentencing modifiers are to be applied by the sentencing officer, judge, or arbiter. Aggravating modifiers may not extend a sentence beyond the specified limit, while extenuating modifiers may not reduce a sentence below the specified limit.

=== Intent Qualifiers - Code.- XXX-NXX ===
The Mantis should not be considered a regular member of epistemics and should not be handling regular epistemics work when other epistemics staff are available unless absolutely necessary, or the Mystagogue has permitted it.

===== Solicitation =====
Any Individual/Individuals found guilty of encouraging, bribing, requesting, or instructing someone to commit a crime with the knowledge that the Individual/Individuals are being solicited to commit the crime, will receive for the crimes they solicited in full. Code. -XXX-N01

===== Accessory =====
<nowiki>*</nowiki>Anomaly Stuff*
Any Individual/Individuals found guilty of assisting in the commission of a crime, without participating in the crime itself, knowing that a crime will be, has been, or is being committed, will receive the sentence for the crimes in which they took part in full. Code. -XXX-N02

===== Attempts =====
Anomalies are claimed by and the responsibility of whoever generated them, or whoever took to handling it first. The commanding officer or Mystagogue may order an anomaly's death at any time for any reason. If an anomaly is inside the boundaries of another department, the relevant department head may also order its removal at any time for any reason.
Any Individual/Individuals found guilty of attempting to commit a crime, with the intent to carry out that crime, will receive the sentence for the crimes they attempted in full. Code. -XXX-N03

===== Conspiracy =====
For anomalies in public areas, in the absence of other obvious containment measures, a locked APE should be left nearby, ideally labelled with the name of researcher who has claimed the anomaly, so that they can be swiftly contacted if there is an issue.
Any Individual/Individuals found guilty of planning to commit a crime, with the intent to carry out said crime eventually, and having committed an overt act pursuant to that end, will receive the sentence for the crimes they conspired towards in full.

=== Enhancers - Code.- XXX-EXX ===
During code white, all anomalies must be decayed.

===== Deadly weapon =====
== Research & Distribution of Experimental Technology ==
Any Individual found guilty of committing a crime, utilizing any object used offensively for the purpose of inflicting mortal or great bodily harm, will receive an additional modifier of, at most, 150% of the original sentence. Code. -XXX-E01. Charge: 150% increase.
Epistemics has the right to refuse or allow the distribution of experimental technology under the permission of the respective Department Head. For example, the Chief Engineer gives the word or provides a written statement requesting Epistemics distribute experimental '''ENGINEERING''' tools to the Engineering crew, or the Mystagogue approves of all Epistemics using and distributing speed boots to their department. This does not mean that a Departmental Head is strictly beholden to this baseline standard; understand that as Command, they ''should'' have an acute understanding of the '''''consequences''''' of distributing experimental equipment.

===== Aggravation =====
== Specializations ==
Any Individual found guilty of committing a crime with reckless abandon, evident signs of lack of regret or remorse, or blatant disregard for potential collateral damage, will receive an additional modifier of, at most, 150% of the original sentence. Code. -XXX-E02. Charge: 150% increase.
The Mantis and Chaplain are not considered regular epistemics employees. Please see [[Specialization Operating Procedures|Specialization SOP]].

Code. -XXX-E03. Charge: 150% increase.
Epistemics are expected to understand that they are liable for the items, boards, and/or equipment they give away if it was used criminally.. It is not reasonable for Epistemics to mass-produce weapons or explosives of any kind unless under direct orders by the Captain or CO.

===== Recidivism =====
=== Expectations ===
Any Individual convicted of the same criminal charge multiple times within one shift will receive an additional modifier of, at most, 200% of the original sentence. Code. -XXX-E04. Charge: 200% increase or upgrade to a capital crime if one of the conditions are fulfilled.
* Epistemics should issue Logistics with an expedition board industrial ore processor when readily available'''.'''
* Epistemics should safeguard the protolathe and circuit board printer to prevent misuse to a reasonable degree.
* The Mystagogue should attempt to encourage keep a record of who they provide items, boards, or equipment to.

Conditions for upgrading to a capital crime:
=== IPCs & Cybernetics ===
* Epistemics shall provide services to all crew IPCs and Cyborgs, such as upgrades, battery replacements, and repairs.
* This means they should be freely given higher-end batteries as they become available.
* Epistemics shall ask before creating Cyborgs for departments; otherwise, create typical Cyborg frames instead of Specialized ones, such as the Engineering or Medical Borgs.

# Malicious intent is proven.
== Surgery ==
# Clear intent to continue to commit felony crimes.
The Roboticist is the only member of epistemics that may do surgery on an organic specifically for the purpose of applying mechanical limbs. Under no circumstance are they to heal an organic using surgery, but instead give them limbs or body changes that fall under their non-organic jurisdiction.

===== Resisting =====
== Anomaly Ownership ==
Any Individual found to be resisting an arrest will be charged with at most 200% of the original sentence after adding any other modifiers. Code XXX-B05. Charge: 200% increase
Anomalies are claimed by and the responsibility of whoever generated them, or whoever took to handling it first. The commanding officer or Mystagogue may order an anomaly's death at any time for any reason. An anomaly can only be "claimed" if an APE is nearby, and if it is claimed, all decisions regarding it fall to owner of the anomaly.

=== Deductions - Code.- XXX-DXX ===
In order to prevent anomalies from going crit when the owner is distracted, it is recommended (but not enforced) that you label your APE with your name.

===== Cooperation =====
== Anomaly Kill Orders ==
Any Individual/Individuals who shares actionable intelligence with the authorities, turns oneself in, testifies against accomplices, confesses to their crime, or otherwise aids the prosecution, may have their sentence reduced to no less than 50% of the original sentence. Code. -XXX-D01. Charge: 50% Decrease.
The Mystagogue or the Commanding Officer (acting or not) is able to enforce an Anomaly Kill Order at any point if they deem the anomaly to be unsafe. They should, preferably, check with the anomaly's owner first, but they do not need to do so if the situation calls for it. Failure to abide by a kill order can lead a demotion or worse Central Command punishment.

===== Temporary Confinement =====
Placing the convict into a temporary holding cell to serve predetermined sentence.

===== Catch & Release =====
Taking the convict to Security, processing them, searching them, and then releasing them.

===== Demotion =====
Downgrading the convict’s employment contract and revoking their access accordingly, with permission from or when ordered by the convict’s head of department. May be applied when the convict has committed a crime relating to their employment within their department or with NanoTrasen as a whole.

===== License restriction =====
Downgrading or suspending the convict’s armament license and confiscating possessions accordingly. May be applied when the convict is guilty of possession or a crime involving a weapon they were lawfully permitted to carry.

===== Psionic Suppression =====
Temporary suppression of the convict’s psionic power by use of Cryptobiolin or psionic insulation. May be applied when the convict is guilty of a crime in which they use psionics.

=== Capital ===
''Including charges totaling 25 minutes or greater. Lethal punishment should only be considered if Extended Confinement is unreasonable or unsustainable, due to external factors or the inherent threat caused by a convict.''

===== Execution =====
Termination of the convict’s life without the intent of future resurrection. Whenever any execution is performed, regardless of trial or not, a general announcement must be made detailing who was executed and for what reason.

The convict may select from one of four methods of execution, depending on availability:

* Firing Squad
* Lethal Injection
* Electric Shock
* Asphyxiation.

If the convict does not make a choice after being given ample opportunity, the sentencing officer or other relevant authority may select the method that is most appropriate.

Convicts may request alternate methods of execution that may be approved or denied at the discretion of the individual passing the sentence. The executed corpse must be burned, stored in the morgue, or processed by medical staff using the biomass reclaimer.<blockquote>Execution should only be considered for highly destructive, dangerous individuals who have caused immense damage, or who continue to pose a danger to the station. A player must consent before their body is burned, placed in the biomass reclaimer, or otherwise rendered permanently unrevivable.</blockquote>

===== Exfiltration =====
Immediate retrieval of the convict via a CentComm or GALPOL dispatched transport. The prisoner may be held in a temporary cell until the transport arrives. If a transport cannot be arranged, default to other capital sentences.

===== Preservative Stasis =====
Termination of the convict’s life with the expressed intent to perform a resurrection once the convict's body can be secured at Central Command. The convict's body is to be stored within a morgue or similar controlled and regulated environment to ensure the body does not rot or be destroyed.

===== Decorporealisation =====
Stripping the convict’s mind from their body into a more restricting form such as borgification.<blockquote>Decorporealisation should only be considered for highly destructive, dangerous individuals who have caused immense damage, or who continue to pose a danger to the station. A player must consent before they are decorporealized.</blockquote>

===== Extended Confinement =====
Placing the convict into the brig until the end of the shift, where they are to be transported to Central Command for processing. The convict has the same rights as any other prisoner within the brig, whether they arrived by transport at start of shift or were sentenced to Extended Confinement.

===== Mindbreaking =====
Removal of the convict’s psionic power by use of Mindbreaker Toxin or any other means. May be applied when the convict is guilty of a capital crime in which they use psionics.<blockquote>Mindbreaking should only be considered for highly destructive, dangerous individuals who have caused immense damage, or who continue to pose a danger to the station. Some individuals may experience '''severe''' long term side effects. </blockquote>

== Pilotage Law ==
All pilots, trained or otherwise, of non-foreign invader shuttles are expected to follow pilotage law. Pilots not aligned with or hired by NT are required to announce their dock with the station. Pilots must fly slowly and exercise caution when docking. Pilots shall not use their vessel to intentionally ram or crash into another vessel or station.

*Artifacts*

Artifacts shall at all times be contained in an artifact container if they are not being actively researched by a scientist. They must be transported within a container to and from epistemics and public spaces (not including hallways) must be avoided.

For anomalies in public areas, in the absence of other obvious containment measures, a locked APE should be left nearby, ideally labelled with the name of researcher who has claimed the anomaly, so that they can be swiftly contacted if there is an issue.

During code white, all anomalies must be decayed.

Research & Distribution of Experimental Technology

Epistemics has the right to refuse or allow the distribution of experimental technology under the permission of the respective Department Head. For example, the Chief Engineer gives the word or provides a written statement requesting Epistemics distribute experimental ENGINEERING tools to the Engineering crew, or the Mystagogue approves of all Epistemics using and distributing speed boots to their department. This does not mean that a Departmental Head is strictly beholden to this baseline standard; understand that as Command, they should have an acute understanding of the consequences of distributing experimental equipment.

Specializations

The Mantis and Chaplain are not considered regular epistemics employees. Please see Specialization SOP.

Dispensation of 'Experimental' Equipment

Epistemics are expected to understand that they are liable for the items, boards, and/or equipment they give away if it was used criminally.. It is not reasonable for Epistemics to mass-produce weapons or explosives of any kind unless under direct orders by the Captain or CO.

Expectations

  • Epistemics should issue Logistics with an expedition board industrial ore processor when readily available.
  • Epistemics should safeguard the protolathe and circuit board printer to prevent misuse to a reasonable degree.
  • The Mystagogue should attempt to encourage keep a record of who they provide items, boards, or equipment to.

IPCs & Cybernetics

  • Epistemics shall provide services to all crew IPCs and Cyborgs, such as upgrades, battery replacements, and repairs.
  • This means they should be freely given higher-end batteries as they become available.
  • Epistemics shall ask before creating Cyborgs for departments; otherwise, create typical Cyborg frames instead of Specialized ones, such as the Engineering or Medical Borgs.

Surgery

The Roboticist is the only member of epistemics that may do surgery on an organic specifically for the purpose of applying mechanical limbs. Under no circumstance are they to heal an organic using surgery, but instead give them limbs or body changes that fall under their non-organic jurisdiction.

Anomaly Ownership

Anomalies are claimed by and the responsibility of whoever generated them, or whoever took to handling it first. The commanding officer or Mystagogue may order an anomaly's death at any time for any reason. An anomaly can only be "claimed" if an APE is nearby, and if it is claimed, all decisions regarding it fall to owner of the anomaly.

In order to prevent anomalies from going crit when the owner is distracted, it is recommended (but not enforced) that you label your APE with your name.

Anomaly Kill Orders

The Mystagogue or the Commanding Officer (acting or not) is able to enforce an Anomaly Kill Order at any point if they deem the anomaly to be unsafe. They should, preferably, check with the anomaly's owner first, but they do not need to do so if the situation calls for it. Failure to abide by a kill order can lead a demotion or worse Central Command punishment.
