Research & Distribution of Experimental Technology

Epistemics has the right to refuse or allow the distribution of experimental technology under the permission of the respective Department Head. For example, the Chief Engineer gives the word or provides a written statement requesting Epistemics distribute experimental ENGINEERING tools to the Engineering crew, or the Mystagogue approves of all Epistemics using and distributing speed boots to their department. This does not mean that a Departmental Head is strictly beholden to this baseline standard; understand that as Command, they should have an acute understanding of the consequences of distributing experimental equipment.

Specializations

The Mantis and Chaplain are not considered regular epistemics employees. Please see Specialization SOP.

Dispensation of 'Experimental' Equipment

Epistemics are expected to understand that they are liable for the items, boards, and/or equipment they give away if it was used criminally.. It is not reasonable for Epistemics to mass-produce weapons or explosives of any kind unless under direct orders by the Captain or CO.

Expectations

  • Epistemics should issue Logistics with an expedition board industrial ore processor when readily available.
  • Epistemics should safeguard the protolathe and circuit board printer to prevent misuse to a reasonable degree.
  • The Mystagogue should attempt to encourage keep a record of who they provide items, boards, or equipment to.

IPCs & Cybernetics

  • Epistemics shall provide services to all crew IPCs and Cyborgs, such as upgrades, battery replacements, and repairs.
  • This means they should be freely given higher-end batteries as they become available.
  • Epistemics shall ask before creating Cyborgs for departments; otherwise, create typical Cyborg frames instead of Specialized ones, such as the Engineering or Medical Borgs.

Surgery

The Roboticist is the only member of epistemics that may do surgery on an organic specifically for the purpose of applying mechanical limbs. Under no circumstance are they to heal an organic using surgery, but instead give them limbs or body changes that fall under their non-organic jurisdiction.

Anomaly Ownership

Anomalies are claimed by and the responsibility of whoever generated them, or whoever took to handling it first. The commanding officer or Mystagogue may order an anomaly's death at any time for any reason. An anomaly can only be "claimed" if an APE is nearby, and if it is claimed, all decisions regarding it fall to owner of the anomaly.

In order to prevent anomalies from going crit when the owner is distracted, it is recommended (but not enforced) that you label your APE with your name.

Anomaly Kill Orders

The Mystagogue or the Commanding Officer (acting or not) is able to enforce an Anomaly Kill Order at any point if they deem the anomaly to be unsafe. They should, preferably, check with the anomaly's owner first, but they do not need to do so if the situation calls for it. Failure to abide by a kill order can lead a demotion or worse Central Command punishment.
