Foreword:
The guiding principle behind our rules is respecting the consent, comfort, and agency of others.
This page is intended to cover our most important rules, while remaining as short and simple as possible. See subrule pages for specific and detailed rulings and precedents. All rules and their nuances are ultimately at the discretion of admin interpretation.
Rule 0: We want to enable roleplay while discouraging anarchy. Many rules can have exceptions granted to accomplish this. We also grant character modifications and items frequently upon request. Ask us for practically anything in an ahelp! Admins are almost always available and eager to assist.
Primary Rules:
1. General Behavior: Be civil, polite, and respectful. Don't be an asshole. Don't make the round worse for others for your own amusement. Don't make others uncomfortable. Don't be abrasive or toxic to others without prior consent. Constructively communicating in OOC channels is strongly encouraged, but don't use OOC channels to vent or complain.
2. Self Antagonism: Don't be a nuisance, threat, or security problem unless your antagonist SOP and objectives direct you to do so. Brawling in social fights is acceptable with mutual consent. Do not use weapons or intentionally crit/kill people in public social fights without both prior consent from all parties and from admins in a rule 0 request. Unauthorized entry to areas is acceptable during emergencies, for the good of the station, or if a department has been unresponsive for a long time (15+ minutes).
2. Roleplay: Collaborate with others and enable cooperative storytelling whenever possible. Don't "play to win" at the cost of others. Play a character that acts in a believable way for someone employed on or visiting a station. Death and injury shouldn't be treated casually. Continuity is appreciated but not required; you decide your own canon.
7. NSFW Roleplay: NSFW content is allowed on Den but is not our focus. Informed prior consent is required before discussing NSFW topics or involving someone in NSFW scenes.
?. Extreme topics:
3. Gameplay: Do the job you signed up for. Don't do other people's jobs, whenever possible. Don't chase threats unless it's your job to do so (Security, Command, or deputized).
4. High Expectation Roles: Command, Security, and Dignitaries must follow their SOP and Space Law. Their roleplay and gameplay are held to a higher standard. They must be reachable and responsive via radio.
5. Antagonists: Follow your SOP. Try to use antagonism to roleplay more than to "play to win". You do not have to do your objectives, but harmful antagonist activity must contribute to your objectives in a meaningful way. Do not cause random chaos and harm. Avoid unnecessary collateral. Do not call or recall the shuttle. Don't ram the station.
6. Ghost Roles: Neutral/Free Agent ghost roles must keep the harm they inflict to the level of a nuisance at most, not a major threat. Antagonist ghost roles (Dragon, Skia, Replicators, Deserters, etc) may cause major harm to the station and crew. Vent critter ghost roles must be hostile or at least territorial.
8. Privacy Holobarriers: Use a privacy holobarrier to mark an area as private or containing NSFW content. Holobarrier description must include if the area is private or public. Entering a holobarriered area indicates giving consent to view NSFW content. Abide by the description on the holobarrier if you enter. Do not conduct any security or antagonist activity behind privacy holobarriers. Never breach a bolted door with a privacy holobarrier on it.
9. Misc
Don't harass people.
Disciplinary Ahelp/Ticket Etiquette: Disconnecting, ignoring, or displaying hostility during a disciplinary ahelp or ticket will result in a server ban.
