Help! There's no Captain! What do I do?
No frills guide to selecting an Acting Commanding Officer (ACO):
- All available Command meet and vote on which member of command should be the Executive Officer (XO).
- Head of Security and Dignitaries are ineligible to become XO/ACO. Administrative Assistant should only be chosen as a last resort.
- All Command in agreement sign and stamp a paper regarding this decision. A majority of Command must endorse one candidate for them to be legally selected as XO/ACO. The paper is faxed to Central Command. Immediately after faxing the paper, the XO has become the ACO. It does not require a response.
- The ACO updates their ID with all accesses, using the emergency Captain ID usually found in the Vault. Put the spare ID back in the cabinet afterwards. The ACO adds the spare master encryption key from the vault fridge to their own headset.
- The ACO makes an announcement to the station regarding their appointment to the position.
- The ACO equips themselves from the Captain's locker and then focuses on performing the duties of the Captain, rather than their original role.
- If a Captain arrives, the Captain immediately becomes the Commanding Officer, and the ACO immediately becomes the Executive Officer (see the XO section for more details), retaining their all access ID and master encryption key.
Help! There's no Command on the station at all! What do I do?
If an emergency arises, fax Central Command for assistance (or send an ahelp). It's generally fine to break in to places when absolutely necessary, to ensure everyone stays alive and the station is powered, but breaking in to high security areas should be avoided when possible.
Help! I'm Command but I don't want to be XO/ACO!
That's completely fine. No one is required to become ACO. You may still use the emergency Captain ID to mitigate emergencies around the station as necessary, but it should stay in its cabinet when not in active use.
