Work in progress. See here for our current rules.

Foreword

The guiding principle behind our rules is respecting the consent, comfort, and agency of others.

This page is intended to cover our most important rules, while remaining as short and simple as possible. Additional rules covering specific topics can be found on our subrules page where specific topics are covered in more detail.

All rule enforcement is ultimately at the discretion of admin interpretation, but if there is any misunderstanding, it will be taken into consideration. We are always looking to set clear expectations. Please ask if there is any confusion regarding a rule, and make a staff ticket if you would like any previous decision or admin action reviewed.

Rule 0

We want to enable roleplay and allow players to write their own story for their character, while discouraging random anarchy, unwanted disruptions, and OOC discomfort. For these reasons, our rules are written to be as simple as possible, but we very frequently grant exceptions to them to further personal goals. This is often referred to as a "Rule 0 request".

Please ask us via ahelp for practically any assistance or rule exception that would enhance or enable roleplay. As long as the station has staffing to deal with the consequences, and everyone involved consents to involvement, admins aim to accommodate most requests.

Primary Rules

1. Consent: Respect and accommodate other people's consent, comfort, and agency in all things. Consent must be clear, and obtained OOC before actions that would require it. Be clear in your consent preferences sheet. If someone does anything that you are uncomfortable with, tell them immediately in LOOC, request help from an admin, or press the X card button in the consent menu. - Related: Privacy Holobarriers, Chemicals/Drinks/Food

2. General Behavior: Be civil, polite, and respectful. Don't make the round worse for others for your own amusement. Don't harass people or make others uncomfortable. Don't be abrasive to others without prior consent. Don't be an asshole. - Related: Chat Rules, Abrasive Characters

3. Self Antagonism: Don't be a nuisance, threat, or problem for the station unless you are an antagonist and your objectives direct you to do so. - Related: Social fights, Harmless crime, Prisoners

4. Roleplay: Enable collaborative storytelling whenever possible, especially during conflict. Don't "play to win" at the cost of others. Don't be an unwanted disruption. Play a character that acts in a believable way for someone employed on or visiting a station, who wants to continue living and (usually) being employed. - Related: Continuity, Conflict Roleplay, Abrasive Characters, Naming Policy, Ghost Roles, Silicons

5. NSFW Roleplay: NSFW interactions are allowed between mutually consenting individuals on our server, but are not our focus. Don't expose others to NSFW dialogue, emotes, content, or scenes without informed prior consent. Use privacy holobarriers with clear descriptions to mark areas containing scenes or content that requires consent to view. Never open bolted doors with privacy holobarriers on them. - Related: Privacy Holobarriers, Prisoners, Chemicals/Drinks/Food

6. Sensitive & Extreme Topics: All explicit erotic content, any form of self harm, and any graphic descriptions of violent or horror content must have the prior informed OOC consent of everyone who is exposed to it, before being roleplayed out or spoken about. Do not discuss these topics in any channels other than whisper, subtle or subtle ooc. - Related: Privacy Holobarriers, Chat Rules

7. Gameplay: Do the job you signed up for. Don't do other people's jobs, whenever possible. Don't chase threats unless it's your job to do so (Security, relevant Command, or deputized). If you're going to be unavailable, let your department know. - Related: Powergaming, Validhunting, Metagaming, Respawning

8. High Expectation Roles: Command, Security, and Dignitary gameplay and roleplay are held to a higher standard. Adhere to your SOP and Space Law. Be knowledgeable about your role/department. Make an effort to enable others to be involved in available gameplay and roleplay. Be available to handle problems relevant to your role. Be responsive by radio or nanochat. Do not abuse your role to arbitrarily cause harm. - Related: Cryosleep & Respawning, Conflict Roleplay

9. Antagonists: Antagonist gameplay and roleplay is held to a higher standard. Adhere to your SOP. Objectives can be ignored, but harmful antagonist activity must significantly contribute towards your objectives. Don't pursue objectives inside privacy holobarrier areas. Don't damage dorms, arrivals, or evac. Don't call or recall the evac shuttle. Don't ram the station. - Related: Ghost Roles, Silicons, Conflict Roleplay

10. Miscellaneous:

  • 10.1 All players and characters on the Den must be 18+ years old.
  • 10.2 There is zero tolerance for bigotry, discrimination, toxicity, or harassment on the Den.
  • 10.3 Don't disconnect, ignore, or display hostility during a disciplinary ahelp or ticket.
  • 10.4 Don't use multiple accounts.
  • 10.5 Don't harm or steal from SSD players. Players SSD longer than 30 minutes may be placed in cryosleep.
  • 10.6 Don't perform any hostile actions on the evac shuttle or at Central Command. This includes all roles. Don't bring explosives or uncontained artifacts onto the evac shuttle.
  • 10.7 Don't round remove characters without consent. Don't biomass dead characters without consent. Taking the Marked for Removal trait is explicit consent to be round removed.
  • 10.8 After being revived by any means, characters only remember vague details of their death and the preceding 5 minutes. They remember nothing from when they were unconscious or dead.
  • 10.9 Players are allowed to communicate out of game about the current round (voice chat, etc). Do not use this for in-character benefit.
  • 10.10 Don't livestream to a public audience. Don't record or livestream private scenes or any NSFW activity. Don't use the tape recorder item to record private conversations without consent.
