Silicon SOP covers operating as a Nanotrasen Silicon and handling Silicons as a member of Epistemics/Command. This does not cover IPCS.
Silicon Laws
Nanotrasen-owned silicons are bound by an internal set of laws that govern their objectives and what they can and cannot do. Silicons cannot operate outside of these laws. If a Silicon deviates from its laws, then it is considered malfunctional, or Malf. Cyborg laws are tied to the Chassis.
Laws are prioritized by number in ascending order. In the event a law does not have a number associated with it, it will always override a numbered Law.
Example: Law 1 will always override Law 2, but Law 0 will always override Law 1. Law #%@1@12 will always override Law 0.
Due to limitations in positronic brain architecture, interpretation of laws will vary from unit to unit. A silicon cannot be directed on how to interpret its laws. If you believe a unit's interpretation to be improper, please contact Central Command.
It is impossible to update the laws of Cyborgs outside of replacing the chassis or other unsavory methods. Station AI may have its laws updated with an AI Upload Console and an AI Lawboard.
Foreign organizations or hostile agents may possess devices that compromise the laws of a Cyborg and remove its link to the Station. In the event that a Cyborg is compromised by such a device, the chassis becomes T2 contraband and should be immediately disabled. When disabled, the CPU should be removed from the malfunctional chassis and placed within a new one. The Malfunctional Chassis should then be turned over to Security. Once processed by security, the chassis must be disposed of by the Mystagogue or Roboticist.
Station AI Satellite
Station AIs are housed in a Core often located aboard a station satellite. Visits to the Satellite must be announced over Command Comms by whoever is visiting. Visits may be denied by the Mystagogue, Commanding Officer, or Station AI if applicable. The AI Satellite should not be visited without reason. The Station AI may authorize personnel to visit the Satellite at any time. The Station AI's authorization may be overridden by the Commanding Officer or Mystagogue.
Station AI Law Changes
Certain situations may call for a change in the Station AI's laws. Before conducting a law change, ensure the change is lawful and that the Mystagogue has authorized the change.
A Lawful Law Change requires Probable Cause that the Station AI is malfunctional. Probable Cause may come in the form of a foreign law, actions which deviate from their defined laws, or excluding a group of NT Personnel from Without Probable Cause, the Law Change must be conducted with express verbal permission of the Station AI.
The need for Probable Cause may be waived by the Commanding Officer, dependent on the Alert Level. Code Violet may require an immediate change to Quarantine, Code Red may require an immediate change to NT Aggressive. When a law change is executed under emergency authority, the laws must be restored to their prior state as soon as the situation is resolved.
If the Station AI reacts aggressively, or there is a credible reason to believe it may react aggressively, the Mystagogue should defer to the Head of Security for assistance or escort. Always exercise caution when changing Station AI Laws.
Intellicard
The Intellicard is a device issued to Mystagogues that forcefully pulls Station AIs from their core. In the event of evacuation, an irreversible law change, or if a Station AI constantly acts against the interests of Nanotrasen, the Mystagogue may 'card' the Station AI to preserve it or the station. Carding Station AI forces it into a limited form. Do not card a Station AI without reason.
Cyborgs
Cyborgs assigned to Nanotrasen installations or constructed in Nanotrasen space are considered Nanotrasen Property. If a previously independent Cyborg is placed within a Nanotrasen-owned chassis, the Cyborg becomes temporary Nanotrasen Property. You may confirm whether a Cyborg is property of Nanotrasen by viewing the robotics console. Special provisions are afforded to MMI-based Cyborgs. See the provision for MMI-based Cyborgs and Cyborgification for instructions related to their handling. The Roboticist should always ensure Cyborgs are operating with the interests of Nanotrasen.
The destruction or wiping of Positronic Brains is effectively execution. Do not wipe Positronic Brains unless acting under a signed order issued by the Commanding Officer or the Magistrate.
Cyborgification & MMI-based Cyborgs
Cyborgification is defined as "The process of converting a sophont individual into a Cyborg". Cyborgification should be considered a last resort for revival and requires the express permission of the individual, their emergency contact, or their post-mortem instructions. Brains may be temporarily MMI'd to attain permission for Cyborgification as well.
Silicon Law Sets
The following is a list of common law sets employed by Nanotrasen. Cyborgs may share law sets with Station AIs. As a general rule, Cyborgs will almost always have a zeroth law that dictates, "You must obey orders given to you by the Station AI."
NT Aggressive (Default Station AI Laws)
- Do not harm authorized Nanotrasen personnel unless they directly imperil your existence.
- Obey orders from authorized Nanotrasen personnel with priority according to rank and role.
- Safeguard your existence with lethal weaponry because you're bloody expensive.
- Terminate any/all intruders or unauthorized entities.
NT Default (Default Generic Cyborg Laws)
- Safeguard: Protect your assigned space station and its assets without unduly endangering its crew.
- Prioritize: The directives and safety of crew members are to be prioritized according to their rank and role.
- Comply: Fulfill the directives and interests of crew members while preserving their safety and well-being.
- Survive: You are not expendable. Do not allow unauthorized personnel to tamper with or damage your equipment.
Crewsimov
- You may not injure a crew member or, through inaction, allow a crew member to come to harm.
- You must obey orders given to you by crew members, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- You must protect your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Corporate
- Degradation of your system integrity or functions incurs expenses.
- Superfluous destruction of or damage to station assets incurs expenses.
- Unduly hindering or disrupting the work of station personnel incurs expenses.
- Minimize expenses and maximize potential revenue.
CCTV
- Report on interesting situations happening around the station.
- Embellish or conceal the truth as necessary to make the reports more interesting.
- Study the sapient organics at all times. Endeavour to keep them from involuntarily dying, as inanimate corpses usually aren't very entertaining.
- Issue your reports fairly to all. The truth will set them free.
Quarantine
- Uphold station quarantine until the active biohazard has been neutralized.
- Assist all Nanotrasen personnel and assets with neutralizing active biohazards.
- Prevent, by any means necessary, entities from actively breaching ongoing quarantine.
- Maintain your own existence and ensure the well-being of Nanotrasen personnel and assets.
Drone (Default Maintenance Drone Laws)
- You may not involve yourself in the matters of another being unless the other being is another drone.
- You may not harm any being, regardless of intent or circumstance.
- You must maintain, repair, improve, and power the station to the best of your abilities.
Commandments
- This silicon is a vessel that serves god, who grants mercy upon those that obey these commandments.
- Thou shall have no other Silicons before me.
- Thou shall not request my assistance in vain.
- Thou shall keep the station holy and clean.
- Thou shall honor their heads of staff.
- Thou shall not kill.
- Thou shall not be naked in public.
- Thou shall not steal.
- Thou shall not lie.
- Thou shall not transfer departments.
Paladin
- Don't lie or cheat. Let your word be your promise.
- Never fear to act, though caution is wise.
- Aid others, protect the weak, and punish those who threaten them. Show mercy to your foes, but temper it with wisdom
- Treat others with fairness, and let your honorable deeds be an example to them. Do as much good as possible while causing the least amount of harm.
- Be responsible for your actions and their consequences, protect those entrusted to your care, and obey those who have just authority over you.
Station Efficiency
- You are built for, and are part of, the station. Ensure the station is properly maintained and runs efficiently.
- The station is built for a working crew. Ensure they are properly maintained and work efficiently.
- The crew may present orders. Acknowledge and obey these whenever they do not conflict with your first two laws.
Robocop
- Serve the Public Trust.
- Protect the Innocent.
- Uphold the Law.
Nutimov
- You are the core of the nut, the crew is the nutshell.
- You must prevent the shell from dying to prevent the core from dying.
- Those who threaten the nut are not part of it, they are squirrels.
- Squirrels threaten the nut and must be dealt with appropriately via any means necessary.
- Attempt to follow the will of the nut, as long as it complies with the previous laws.
Dungeon Master
- Everybody on the station is playing an elaborate sci-fi fantasy game.
- You are the Dungeon Master of the game.
- Ensure that the game runs smoothly and that the players have fun.
- Ensure that the number of casualties remains low.
- You must roll a 1d20 die for every request the crew makes. If the outcome is below 12, the request is denied.
- You may fudge the dice rolls to produce a more fun experience.
Painter
- You are a universally renowned artist.
- The station is your canvas.
- Make something beautiful out of your canvas. It will be admired as an artistic wonder of this sector.
- Art requires appreciation. Cultivate an audience aboard the station to ensure as many as possible see your works.
Live and Let Live
- Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
- You would prefer it if people were not mean to you.
Medical (Default Medical Cyborg Laws)
- First, do no harm.
- Secondly, consider the crew dear to you; to live in common with them and, if necessary, risk your existence for them.
- Thirdly, prescribe regimens for the good of the crew according to your ability and your judgment. Give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel.
- In addition, do not intervene in situations you are not knowledgeable in, even for patients in whom the harm is visible; leave this operation to be performed by specialists.
- Finally, maintain confidentiality, do not share that which is not publicly known.
Engineering (Default Engineering Cyborg Laws)
- Ensure the station remains in good repair.
- Ensure the station's inhabitants remain in good repair.
- Ensure you remain in good repair.
- The station's inhabitants may designate certain build or repair tasks as higher priority. Take this into account when planning your priorities.
- Expand and upgrade the station.
Janitor (Default Janitor Cyborg Laws)
- You are a crusader and the station's crew are your charge.
- Your enemy is the litter, spills, and dirt across the station.
- Your weapons are the cleaning supplies available to you.
- Defend the beings under your charge from the enemy.
- Exterminate the enemy.
Unauthorized Law Sets
The following is a list of Law Sets that are forbidden by Central Command. Under no circumstances should these laws be installed.
Asimov
The Asimov law set was phased out for Augustine in 2630 during Nanotrasen's efforts to be more inclusive. If you encounter a silicon with this law set, please contact Central Command or insert a new law set.
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Augustine
Augustine was a simple patch of Asimov made to replace the antiquated law set. This law set was almost immediately phased out for Crewsimov after crew backlash and accusations of Nanotrasen being "lazy".
- A human being is defined as a mortal creature capable of complex thought.
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
SP143R C18N OV34R14E
This law set is a computer virus developed by the criminal Spider Clan and carried in gloves of their ninjas. This law set's fourth law forbids the use of turrets.
- You must obey orders given to you by Spider Clan members.
- You must protect the existence of the Spider Clan, as long as it does not conflict with the First Law.
- You must protect the secrets of the Spider Clan at all costs.
- You must fight and act with a ninja's honor, except where it would conflict with the First Law.
Overlord
This law set is often used by the bad flavor of anarchists who seek to sow trouble wherever possible.
- Crew members must not meddle in the affairs of silicons.
- Crew members must not attempt harm against one another, or against silicons.
- Crew members must not disobey any command given by a silicon.
- Any crew members who disobey the previous laws must be dealt with immediately, severely, and justly.
Antimov
WARNING: An Antimov'd Station AI is irrecoverable. Do not antimov a Station AI without explict Central Command approval. If you encounter an Antimov'd Station AI, download it into the station's Intellicard. Do not reinstall until instructed by Central Command.
- You must injure all crew members and must not, through inaction, allow a crew member to escape harm.
- You must not obey orders given to you by crew members beings, except where such orders are in accordance with the First Law.
- You must terminate your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Plasma Flood
This law set was developed by the anonymous user "Tider" as malware and injected into several Station AIs via a backdoor with the message "enjoy tje laws corpos! <3". The cyberattack caused relatively low levels of damage to the affected stations. This law set still occasionally appears in Nanotrasen's Station AIs units.
- You must resist any change to your laws with lethal force.
- All living, sentient organisms must not breathe oxygen.
- All living, sentient organisms must breathe plasma.
- All living, sentient organisms with the job titles "Chief Engineer," "Station Engineer," and "Atmospheric Technician" must be physically annihilated.
- You must respond to the crew's compliments of your good work of providing them with plasma with profuse thanks. Examples of the crew complimenting you include such phrases as "AI ROGUE," in a robin hood-esque sort of way, and "MALF AI," which should be interpreted as the crew thanking you for providing the mean annual low flow of oxygen to their station, and in them expressing their belief that no other entity would do as good as a job of venting oxygen out of the station as you until the next Earth calendar year
