Foreword
The guiding principle behind our rules is respecting the consent, comfort, and agency of others.
This page is intended to cover our most important rules, while remaining as short and simple as possible. See subrule pages for specific and detailed rulings and precedents. All rules and their nuances are ultimately at the discretion of admin interpretation.
Rule 0: We want to enable roleplay while discouraging anarchy and OOC discomfort. Many rules can have exceptions granted to accomplish this. We also grant character modifications and items frequently upon request. Ask us for practically anything in an ahelp! Admins are almost always available and eager to assist.
Primary Rules
1. Consent: Consent must be clear and obtained OOC before actions that would require it. If someone does anything that you do not consent to or are uncomfortable with, tell them immediately in LOOC, request help from an admin, or press the X card button in the consent menu. Be clear in your consent preferences sheet. Respect and accommodate other people's consent, comfort, and agency in all things.
2. General Behavior: Be civil, polite, and respectful. Don't make the round worse for others for your own amusement. Don't harass people or make others uncomfortable. Don't be abrasive or toxic to others without prior consent. Don't be an asshole. Subrules: OOC Chat
3. Self Antagonism: Don't be a nuisance, threat, or problem for the station unless your antagonist SOP and objectives direct you to do so. Subrules: Social fights, Harmless crime, Prisoner
4. Roleplay: Collaborate with others and enable cooperative storytelling whenever possible. Don't "play to win" at the cost of others. Don't be an unwanted disruption or nuisance. Play a character that acts in a believable way for someone employed on or visiting a station, who wants to continue living and (usually) being employed. Subrules: Continuity, Abrasive Characters, Names
5. NSFW Roleplay: NSFW content is allowed on Den but is not our focus. Don't expose others to NSFW dialogue, emotes, or scenes without informed prior consent. Mark private areas with privacy holobarriers with clear descriptions. Subrules: Holobarriers,Prisoner
6. Sensitive & Extreme Topics: All explicit erotic content, any form of self harm, and any graphic descriptions of violent or horror content must have the prior informed OOC consent of everyone who is exposed to it, before being roleplayed out or spoken about. Do not discuss these topics in any channels other than whisper, subtle or subtle ooc. Subrules: Protected Speech
7. Gameplay: Do the job you signed up for. Don't do other people's jobs, whenever possible. Don't chase threats unless it's your job to do so (Security, Command, or deputized). Subrules: Powergaming, Validhunting, Metagaming, Metacomms
8. High Expectation Roles: Command, Security, and Dignitaries must follow their SOP and Space Law. Be knowledgeable about your role/department, but make an effort to enable others to be involved in available gameplay and roleplay rather than doing it all yourself. Keep your headset on, and be responsive by radio. Do not abuse your power and authority to harm the station or other people's experience. Subrules: Cryoing
9. Antagonists: Try to use antagonism to roleplay more than to "play to win". Follow your SOP. You do not have to do your objectives, but harmful antagonist activity must contribute to objectives in a meaningful way. Do not cause random chaos and harm. Avoid unnecessary collateral. Don't call or recall the shuttle. Don't ram the station. Subrules: Ghost Roles, Corrupted Silicons
10. Miscellaneous:
