Command SOP Abridged

From The Den Wiki

Intended to be a quick summary of Command SOP for those who are new or in a hurry. See the full Command SOP for more details.

Expectations of Command:

  • Enable others both in collaborative roleplay and mechanically. Don't be eager to shut down antagonists to "win".
  • Do your job. Ensure your department is functional. Teach people when needed.
  • Don't do other people's jobs, whenever it is reasonable to delegate the task to crew from an appropriate department/role.
  • Don't break the law or SOP without admin permission.
  • Don't get in Security's way or do their job.
  • Avoid placing yourself in danger in active combat on purpose.
  • As Captain, avoid undermining other Command in their departments and specializations.
  • As Command, especially XO, avoid undermining the Captain's orders and decisions.

Hiring/Firing:

  • Captain can hire or fire anyone to any department but should defer to Department Heads for that department's staff when possible.
  • Captain can hire new Department Heads at any time. Should be from that department when reasonable to do so.
  • Captain may dismiss Department Heads with a majority vote of Command, or with Magistrate's approval.
  • Captain may dismiss Acting Department Heads at any time.
  • Department Heads can hire anyone into their department. Even if the person is already employed elsewhere.
  • Department Heads can dismiss anyone from their department at will, but should have a good reason (such as criminal activity).

XO Quick Summary:

  • XO is second in command. Takes control (as ACO) if the Captain is SSD, goes on a long break, or is dead/incapacitated.
  • Captain selects the XO at will from other Command, and can dismiss them at will.
  • If there is no Captain, all of Command votes on who is XO (who then becomes ACO).
  • Captain can give the XO tasks. XO then has authority second only to the Captain when carrying out that task.
  • XO can take independent action during life threatening emergencies if the Captain is not already responding to them.
  • XO may not undermine the Captain's decisions.
