The Trans-Solarian Federation is the second superpower originating from the Sol system. Formally referred to as the United Government of Terra, or the UGT, the TSF was formed following the settling of outer system civilisations originating from Earth itself. When the UGT decided to expand beyond the Sol system, mainly following on from their failure to acquire Mars, they did so through many privatised subsidiaries dappled across Earth.
Whilst the UGT are still considered the centralised government of Earth, their continued survival hinges on the many federated states that remain spread throughout space, as well as the resource hungry megacorporations that fund the government. Their position being the one of power in the TSF makes it easily one of the wealthiest superpowers in space, boasts the biggest federated and independent navies, and claims to hold onto its diplomatic supremacy over any other superpowers.
The founding of the TSF was followed almost directly after Terra's settlement outside of the Sol system. Following the Martian war of Independence, and the formation of the IMS, the wounded UGT had entered into a peace deal with Mars. The terms of this deal were cut fine enough to allow trade and commerce between the two factions, and through this commerce NT's interstellar engine was the hot topic of purchase. Despite Electra Dynamics owning a number of these engines from their prior coverup deal with NT, the UGT where now publicly trading them into their borders and already seeking spaces outside of the system. Whilst a number of spots within the system caught their eye, and planning had already entered the private sector for the creation of a number of space stations, landing a colony outside the system had become the new space race.
The TSF's military is often looked at as the standard to what a modern superpower's military should look like. Considering it is still a federation, this has allowed for both a collection of government owned private military companies across its space, as well as a centralised Federation navy. Given how closely aligned their histories find themselves, the UGT Navy, and the TSF Federation Navy are often conflated into eachother's ranks, much to the dismay of its internal, and external critics. Whilst it is impossible to argue to sheer size and organisation of its Navy, many state that due to its size and the wide collection of inter-federation government military assets, many 'under the radar' excursions end up taking place that go overlooked or are impossible to document on the fringes of its space. Deserters, rebels, or even official naval movements without official documentation, end up leading to a quite strong perception of what the Solarian Navy is truly like on a macro basis.
Federation Structure
Being a Federation, the centralized TSF government revolves around its progenitors, the UGT in Sol. They host a centralized government on the planet, which oversees the federation's governance. This effectively makes the president of the UGT the president of the TSF as well, which more often than not causes power imbalances across the TSF space. Having such a large foothold throughout the entirety of space all falling under the defacto rule of a government centralized on Earth that can be traced back to a single person has been a point of critique amongst those politically inclined within the TSF space for a long time. Many have even questioned the legitimacy of the TSF's status as a federation, comparing it closer to a more Terran-like government, or even Empire of old, especially given their method of acquisition when it comes to new territories, opting to legitimize new territories under their federation as the ruling power.
The President of the TSF
The throat of all power within the Federation, the President holds sovereignty over all territories that fall under the TSF. With their cabinet of influence, the President of the TSF looks after their territory with a hands on and managerial approach. Whilst smaller council's exist throughout the TSF space, usually localized ones for various sectors, communities and territories, the overarching government headed by the President resides final ruling and Terra creates the federation wide standard.
President's Cabinet
The presidential cabinet is assembled from the many councils that make up the TSF space, and it is the duty of the president to elect them. Whilst there are a number of standout roles within the cabinet, generally it is a large collection of ministers and chancellors whose job it is to look after the Federation. Presently, the cabinet finds itself made up mostly of governmental officials present on Earth itself, directly from the UGT with only a few other members present from other federation members.
Federation Parliament
A place of gathering for all other politicians within the Federation. The Federation Parliament is where the many councilors that didn't make it into the Cabinet gather to debate and discuss the future of the Federation itself, as well as laws. The Parliament itself is hosted on Earth, and given its importance is regularly gathered at least every Terran month, with an annual gathering of all Federation parliamentarians for grander scale discussions.
History
Present Day
The TSF as they stand today are a highly militant faction hungry on expansion and growth. They spread through space, using their navy to bring newly contacted nations into the fold, and quickly uplifted into their society. Due to their main bankroll originating from Electra Dynamics, the TSF hungrily consume as much space as they can through expansion in order to keep up with their benefactor's heavy desires.
A tie up with Electra
When the UGT was sued for peace following their failure to invade the Martian space, their internalised culture was on the brink of civil unrest. Many people on Terra sympathised with the Martian's plight, and sought out to see the planet as an independent nation of its own, so their ability to uphold the war would've been political suicide. Instead, they turned to their main funders at the time, Electra Dynamics. Electra had funded the government's invasion of Mars almost entirely, and had brought many of the armaments directly from Cybersun that the Terran soldiers had taken to battle. Electra's ideals were masked to the UGT, and in the time of their failings, the idea of peace was something that displeased them whilst NT still stood, but they recognised the dangers of a continued war, and so they cut a new deal with UGT. "Go ahead and shake their hands on the moon then, just make sure they knew we flew you there."
Venture beyond the Sol system
Given the many excursions that had been planned within the Sol system to lay claim and ownership to the more local planets, the UGT instead expended their resources probing deeper into space, searching for a new land to settle outside their home system. It was with Electra's help once again, that they were able to organise the first outer system ventures utilising the engine they had acquired and subsequently reverse engineered from NT. Whilst the IMS where trying to achieve a similar goal, the TSR where in a relatively better spot to be probing into deep space for settlements given their population bias vs Mars, despite the exodus of its citizen that wanted to move to the other planet. Terra still held a far stronger population, and due to this its ability to churn out more workpower gave it the edge when it came to planning an escape from its system. It was only natural that they would end up as the first contact with outer-Sol system life, but it being so soon after their failure at Mars was a far off their own estimations.
