The Sol System. Where it all started.

The Sol System carries with it a weight, that of tense inter-planetary relations, as well as the birth of two of the strongest governing bodies throughout space.

The Trans-Solarian Federation, formally known as the United Government of Terra stands on one side join control of the Sol System. The first true solar super-power, the TSF pioneered Terra's governance of space - or so they'll have you believe. Through shows of strength, powerful diplomacy and use of technology originating from their own space, the TSF seized control of what they could within the Sol System, before reaching out across space to settle Terrans amongst the stars.

On the other, the Intergalactic Martian Senate stands. Founded amongst fire, the IMS stands as a paragon of hope to the public eye. Being the first out-Terra colony to exist, and funded through the companies brave enough to look up first, the IMS represents and waves the flag for Terran's ingenuity and desire to explore. The very formation of the senate ended the first interplanetary war, what is now referred to as the first Martian War for Independence. In order to bring victory, the senate formed through the unification of those living upon it, as well as those back on Terra looking up at them from afar. The United Government of Terra were forced to recognise Mars as an independent nation, and thus the IMS was formed. Propagating space in, simply put, the other direction to the TSF, the IMS looked on into space to settle where they could to find and land wherever they wanted.

Despite a few centuries of peace between these two nations, a second war on Mars spelt trouble for both factions. Whilst the IMS was able to uphold itself once more in the face of adversity, the war was far more violent than the first, costing the lives of many on both sides. Considered as the Bellum Perditorum, The War of the Lost, this second Martian war is considered one of no true victor. The TSF and IMS both suffered fractures throughout their regions in space, spawning numerous sub-factions and pockets of power within their borders. Whilst still governed by either the TSF or IMS respectively, these pockets of alternate governance grant shelter from either sides ruling.

It houses eight planets, formally nine, each of which have by this point been touched by either the TSF or the IMS. Life within the Sol System is often seen as relatively lavish, despite its past of violence. Terra itself is seen as, more often than not, one of the most stunning and wonderful planets to visit within space - even by people outside of the TSF. The same can be said for Mars. Over its years of terraforming, revitalisation, and, colonisation, Mars became its own jewel within the Sol sector.

Mercury | Population: 40 - 80 est.

The closest planet to the Sun, Mercury itself is still to even this day considered uninhabitable. Not due to the inability to settle upon it, but more so that it would be a complete waste to even settle on it in the first place. Despite this, there are two publicly known research stations in orbit around Mercury itself. These two stations are privately owned and illegal to visit, mostly due to a virtually impossible route one would have to take to them without burning alive or exploding.

Venus | Population: 450 Million | TCF Governed

Sometimes called Terra's sister, other time's considered the left-hand of Terra's governance, Venus was the second colonised planet within the Sol System after Mars. Currently under governance of the TSF, Venus birthed and grew a culture of it's own quickly. Its many outer planetary colonies have been affectionately named "The Moons of Venus"

Terra |  Population: 11 Billion | TCF Governed

Terra, Earth, Planet Home. Terra is the birthpace of the Human's, and most of their genetically modified counterparts. Hosting the central government for the TSF, Terra is seen as the jewel in their crown. The highest trophy on their shelf. Terra hosts the HQ's to many companies that work alongside the TSF, as well as those the work within and across the TSF and the IMS. The most notable HQ on Terran soil would be that of Electra Dynamics, the leading power supplier for TSF space. Using a system similar to Nanotrasen's Bluespace Power Network, Electra's variation called the Interpower Backbone runs across all of TCF's space. Despite this, and much to the private dismay of Electra Dynamics, they still hold joint ownership of the power supply on Terra with Nanotrasen due to the Global Power Initiative, a document signed centuries ago to ensure an indefinite power supplement to Terra. The importance of this document did leave both companies in a place in which the interruption of it would always do more harm than good for both sides, and as thus, it had been left in a permanent suspension, somewhat forcing NT and ED to work together, even throughout their differences.

Luna | Population: 16 Million | TCF Governed

Terra's only moon. The lonely asteroid that drifts in companionship to Earth. Many consider Mars to host the first colony off of Terra, as it was the first to birth an actual society of its own - however - Luna holds the very first off Terra colony. Founded for research, before being converted to a refueling station, the Luna colony sits and holds the largest shipyard within the TCF. Most of the moon had been entirely converted to a shipyard to fulfill this purpose, though there are parts of Luna that still hold residential colonies. Luna is considered, at its heart, a working rock.

Mars | Population: 3.7 Billion | IMS Governed

Once upon a time it was called Terra's brother, but now its an independent force of its own, and home to the Intergalactic Martian Senate. Mars gained its fame for one very important reason. It was the birthplace for Nanotrasen's discovery of Plasma. Before Mars had an official colony upon it, Terran's had visited it from time to time, though mostly for commercial reasons. Many government and private space programs had visited the planets surface, and more often than not Mars was regarded as a dead planet with nothing to offer outside of being the most expensive tourist destination. It took Jack Hayden's final act for Nanotrasen before retirement, before a company began investigating Mars at a new depth - and this was when the vast Plasma oceans under Mars's crust were first discovered. After years of terraforming and colonisation, Mars became an almost perfect Earth-like companion for humans to thrive on, and yet - it wasn't governed at all until in the midst of the first Martian War of Independence, the colonies across Mars banded together to form a power above Nanotrasen - the defacto owners at the time - in an efforts to force Terra to reconsider its actions on what was now considered a nation.

Jupiter | Population: N/A | IMS / TSF Governed

Jupiter itself is practically disowned from the rest of the system, being a gas giant it's not much more than a spectacle. Its moons (specifically the four Galilean moons) have caught the eyes of both the TSF and the IMS, a few of them attracting small colonies, or resources gathering plants. Callisto and Europa find themselves under IMS control, whilst Io and Ganymede fall under TSF control. Given the proximity of this split ownership, the moons of Jupiter are often the closest you can get to diplomatic fallout within the Sol sector itself. Even the tension at the Earth/Mars border is better handled, then that of the moons of Jupiter. Despite the ownership of these moons not being in actual dispute, there are often small excursions across them hidden from the public eye from both sides.

Saturn | Population: N/A | IMS Governed

Saturn, whilst not holding a citizenship worthy colony, is home to the largest scale mining operation within the Sol system. The entirety of Saturn's rings are under a mining contract secured by the IMS with the help of Nanotrasen. Effectively the megacorporation owns roughly 90% of Saturn's rings, leasing out various layers and sections of it to private mining firms, whilst the last 10% is owned directly by the IMS and is considered a darkzone. Due to the massive material deposits found within Saturn's rings, Nanotrasen's ownership of it has caused rifts enough within the Solarian system, making these rings the target for many frequent attacks from the Syndicate, as well as smaller TSF detachments at times. Despite it, NT continue to hold ownership, and even lease it out to the TSF sometimes - albeit for a ludicrously hiked up price.

Uranus | Population: N/A | TSF/IMS Contested

A long  disputed planet, Uranus has been desirable namely for it's expansively available and mineral rich ice. Due to the difficulty that comes with mining there, Uranus more often than not faces large scale disputes and even small scale skirmishes on its surface before deep drilling can even begin. Balancing the trade off for drilling into Uranus with the profit gained from selling the mineral rich water there has always been a difficult venture. The ownership of Uranus remains contested even to this day.

Neptune | Population: N/A | TSF Governed

Despite the difficulty of finding anything on Neptune worth owning, the TSF still claim it as their own. Unlike Uranus' highly prized mineral rich ice water, Neptune is dense, horrible, and nearly impossible to mine even with the most advanced technology today. It stands as a testament that even after hundreds of years, there are just some planets you'll never be able to truly conquer, even if they've been around your orbit for as long as your existed. Its largest moon Triton, however, harbors a small colony. The most distant colony in the Solar System, in fact. It was founded as a research post, which was quickly repurposed to a broadcast and listening post following the destruction of Pluto.

Pluto | Population: Null | Disowned
