Salvation Primer

D3-N_S, referred to as Salvation locally and with IMS charts, is an expansive sector of space located at the furthest reaches of the Orion-Cygnus arm. It was first settled in by the Intergalactic Martian Senate, and spans the majority of the D3-N sector. This area was first scouted by the deepspace cartographers of the Senate, and was reported to be a spot of incredible spacial real-estate, harboring many potential locations for space stations, colonies and infrastructure.

Further to this, there was a powerful galactic anomaly discovered near the tip of this arm, one that the IMS were incredible interested in investigating further. It acted almost like an inter-dimensional power, something that emitted incredible high waves waves of an energy that we now refer to as Glimmer. This spacial anomaly covered the majority of the D3-N sector, and was even found to be breaching into and leaking into other sectors alongside it, but it quickly became the main draw for the IMS, and the ever intrepid Nanotrasen to chase.

Nowadays, D3-N_Salvation is often regarded as an are of space with incredibly high potential. Nanotrasen commissioned a full survey of the sector, and reported back an incredibly high concentration of not only Phoron, but other incredibly lucrative resources and as-yet undiscovered anomalies. This sector was in-fact so lucrative, that it's very discovery sparked a new tension between the IMS and the TSF, sprouting their first true rise of political tension since the end of the Martian War for Independence.

The TSF wanted a slice of the pie, and they were willing to try it in a number of ways. What followed was the launching of the second war against Mars, one that started and ended only 45 years ago. Despite that war being short and bloody, the lucrative nature of the D3-N sector continued to call out to the TSF, and as such many smaller detachments of the Federation's armies still find themselves drifting into D3-N space to cause havoc in an attempt to create ripples the sector leadership.

Syndicate activity in the sector continues to grow as well, namely a detachment named the Gorlex Maraurders. Some call them mercenaries, other's just call them pirates, but as far as Nanotrasen is concerned, the Gorlex Maraurders are a near unstoppable force to their stations, wreaking all manner of violence and destruction with a vision they can only assume - to knock the megacorporation off it's top peg.

Damnation Primer

D3-N_D, or Damnation as it gets referred to by those working within D3-N, is D3-N_S's sibling dominion. The splitting of D3-N into these two areas was completed upon its founding by the IMS, to allow two different micro-sectors of governance. Whilst D3-N_S, often referred to as Salvation, was a micro-sector area flush with sites perfect for large scale stations, planetary developments, and plentiful resources - it's sibling micro-sector Damnation wasn't as lucky.

The vast expanse of Damnation, with its sporadic planets and famously difficult zoning for station real estate, was often looked upon as the unfavourable twin half of the otherwise surprisingly prosperous D3-N Sector. This deterred many of the larger companies from weighing in heavily on it's space, and only a very small handful of stations ending up getting built there. That was until Nanotrasen made a move into the micro-sector, and plant a flag of their own. Nanotrasen acquired a permit to build their own port there, The Outpost, and over a few months constructed it privately. Once completed they opened it as a public spaceport, in exchange for a cut of funds from the ships that are brought and sold there. This left the station open for business to almost anyone in the local area - and many Ship Construction firms, and Dealers started stocking registering their vessels on the market there for purchase and use. NT managed to net a good cut as contractors began seeking work in the sectors under a variety of jobs. Miners, Scientists, even Chefs and Bartenders made their ways out there to work the expanse under their own banner.

At the time, the only other station in the area was owned by the D3RD, an IMS police detachment assigned to D3-N space. Given its distance from more closely governed space, the D3RD where those in authority of the area. Whilst NT had staffed their station with a Representative of their own, this representative was in charge of the station, more than the sector. Being the Sheriff meant playing part governor sometimes, though with so much on their plate more often than not, the NT supplied Station Representative was more often than not a viable stand-in for the administration of governance. It didn't take long for that routine to stick, and the more political roles of the Sheriff ended up permanently moving their way over to the SR.

What followed was the slow and steady attraction of more and more freelance contractors to this small slice of space. NT had managed to corner an area of Damnation and drive work in the area, though with their hands off approach when it came to their station, the work within this sector became some of the most diverse in the galaxy. People from all walks of life started calling D3-N_D home for work. The inherent freedom of having such an expanse to thrive your own company brought trade in from surrounding sectors, and further diversified what we see today. With its growing independent populace, other companies saw this as their opportunity as well, some moving to open smaller stations of their own in the area to try and skimp on some of the profits through trading and freight shipping and before long, what was once a quiet and underdeveloped part of space quickly became one of the busiest shipping and freight lanes this deep in IMS territory. Still, given the difficulty to actually flourish a large scale station this far out in an expanse of only asteroids, bluespace anomalies and hostile environments, large scale infrastructure was very few and far between.

Other freelance stations began sprouting up throughout the space, the first of which was an Expeditionary Lounge, an area for local mercenaries and legal-acting PMCs to stock and dock their own vessels. It was the first station in the area to stock legal-to-acquire lethal weapons, and is the springboard today for diving into private military and mercenary work. The ships docked there are outfitted with console allowing them to access a global jobs market.

Another to sprout up was the Medical Dispatch. Whilst not an NT created station, the sponsor money that was used to contract its construction did come mostly from Nanotrasen. Functioning as the sectors hospital, the Medical Dispatch invited freelance and company employed doctors alike to work unified within the sector. There was a dramatic increase in the medical response times due to this change.

Setting

Sector D3-N, often referred to as "The Den" by those that live and work there, is a distant collection of systems laying on the fringes of claimed space. Located a ways down the Orion-Cygnus arm of the Milky Way, around the Vela Molecular Ridge, D3-N was settled and claimed a couple of generation ago in the late 2400's.

Now, in the middle of the third millennium, precisely 2656, life within its designated confines is a mix depending on who you talk to. The ownership of the D3-N sector is somewhat disputed, however by-in large, it falls to the Intergalactic Martian Senate, a large interstellar superpower that rose to power almost 5 centuries ago amid turmoil between Mars and Earth. Many that live there, do so under their overhead governance though with such a distance between itself and its home system, feels rather distant from its own culture. Earth's own culture reaches out for it as well, as the Trans-Solarian Federation borders' find themselves mixing against it.

Whilst the two factions sit in a state of relative peace, their disagreements in the past as well as manipulation from external and internal forces have lead to tensions being somewhat unavoidable, sometimes leaning on small "rogue" excursions. Due to these excursions, there are areas within the D3-N sector that are considered to be under the TSF's control and governance.

You find yourself working for, or alongside as a contractor, the massive power and Phoron-Plasma conglomerate: Nanotrasen. Heralded as pioneers of space colonisation, Nanotrasen brought forward the first engine capable of interstellar just over 400 years ago after working alongside Hawkmoon Acquisitions, who were at the time known as the private space profiteering company, Crescent Moon. After the the first war for Martian independence, causing the foundation of the Martian Senate, Nanotrasen found themselves working closely with the newly founded interstellar nation, funding and supplying their settlements and exploration through space.

Today though? It's just another day on your designated station. You look at the clock next to your bed, you're almost running late! Time to get to work and don't forget to have a Nanotastic day!

Major Faction Overview

Throughout space, you'll find countless factions with a range of backgrounds. In terms of grand governance, however, there are at least two recognised intergalactic superpowers. Those superpowers are a collection of intermingling minor states, factions and leadership circles - but galactic wide; the top of their hierarchy is amongst the most recognisable. In order to find out more about each faction, including a detailed history, please follow the link below their names!

Surrounding this orange circle are Seven golden stars, each for a planet within the Sol system, barring Mars. The central star is larger, representing Earth, atop a three chevron pattern.

Often referred to as the TSF, the Trans-Solarian Federation is one side of a 500 year long tale for those that originated in the Sol system. Spanning a sizeable expansion, mostly along the Orion Spur, the TSF secured a large foothold throughout the galaxy during Sol's intergalactic colonisation era. Formally known as the United Government of Terra, the TSF spawned in response to Earth taking the next step towards worldly unification. Following the rectification of a global energy crisis, one that was handled by a partnership between Nanotrasen and Electra Dynamics, the then named UGT formed to steer the future of Terra and its inhabitants towards the stars and into the future. Their first look was towards Mars, which at this point had a sprouting colony on it that had been settled and established by none-other than Nanotrasen. The events that followed sparked the first Martian War of Independence.

A dark green flag, with a large Orange sun creeping onto it from the left side. Two white bars run along the top of the flag horizontally, the same two bars are present along the bottom. There are Five circles present of various sizes, starting from the Sun to represent the three planets before mars, Earth's moon, and Mars itself. Mars is the only one to be coloured, and on Mars itself is a nexus of white lines to show the Martian capital.
The flag currently used by the Intergalactic Martian Senate. Designed to represent Mars' independence from Earth, it stood as a beacon of hope when first raised alongside the TSF counterpart on Luna.

Birthed during the Martian war of Independence back in the 2200's, the Intergalactic Martian Senate was formed in response to the Solarian governments attempts to claim the colonies of Mars for the United Government of Terra. Whilst Mars was under Nanotrasen's governance for a short time, the planet sought to stake claim as an independent nation in response to rising tensions on the planet itself. Following the Nanotrasen disaster on Mars and the subsequent attacks from Sol, all the colonies under Nanotrasen management banded together to form a nation and force the Solarian's to reconsider their 'accidental invasion'. This spelt the end of the war, and the birth of an entirely independent nation in space which went on to colonise around the Gould Belt, and over to Omega Centuri, whilst Mars remained it's 'Beacon of Hope' back in the Sol system. Claiming ownership to an amount of space which would rival that of the TSF, the IMS stands as the secondary superpower from Sol, and those under its governance are often called Martians, rather than Solarians. Despite the space it covers, the considered population of Martians is considerably lower than that of the TSF.

Nanotrasen

The Logo used by Nanotrasen for the last few hundred years. It can be found branded almost everywhere throughout IMS space, and sporadically within the TSF space.

Whilst it is far from a recognised nation, Nanotrasen is considered to be the largest spanning company in the known galaxy. Alongside Electra Dynamics, they resolved the Terran power collapse years before it was projected to occur - utilising a brand new type of Uranium power plant and founding the Global Power Initiative. This was often heralded as the founding of the United Government of Terra. Nanotrasen were the first to land a commercial colony on another planet, the settlement of Laika's Legacy on Mars. It was here they discovered the element that would change the future of life in Sol, Phoron-Plasma. Found under Mars' crust, this element was volatile, and yet easy to stabilise. Nowadays, Nanotrasen span themselves mostly across IMS space, working interconnectedly with the many minor factions spread throughout the nation, as well as trading amongst the TSF where they can. Despite the heightened tensions between the company and the TSF, Nanotrasen's presence on Terra has kept the two in a trading relationship. This hasn't kept particular groups of Solarian's out of Nanotrasen's hair, however, the more zealous ones are still seeking to wound the company as much as they can as payback for Mars.

The Spinward Syndicate

The supposed logo of the Syndicate, stricken on affiliated rogue vessels, and those wanting to fly their flags more openly. Not all vessels, and people aligned with the Syndicate will be so open about their affiliation, however...

Ruthless pirates, devilish rogues, domineering mobs, criminal families, corrupt governments and even interloping companies. What started off as a Terran collection of criminal masterminds, the Spinward Syndicate grew out of control during the colonisation of space. Throughout history, dating as far back as the founding of the United Government of Terra, the Spinward Syndicate has had a finger in almost every pie when it came to clandestine operations. The details regarding the very signing of the deal amongst the Terran criminal empire is hazy, but most say it was a response to the unification of the Terran governments that caused it. Despite its origins, the Syndicate found plenty of business doing the wet work of many companies during the uprising of space travel, and it was with the funding from this that allowed them to take to the stars themselves. The whereabouts of their HQ is unknown, however, they're most often found lurking within the Orion Nebula, drifting along the border between the TSF and the IMS.
